David Crossley: First excursion

I have published stuff since early WWW days. Now it is time to make my first excursion with a blog.

This blog intends to mention some of my past contributions to keeping the world turning, why i became involved in open development, some open source observations, contribution and volunteerism, some sustaining recipes, recent discoveries and observations.

The past includes: The use of metadata to form the basis of powerful search systems using Wide Area Information Servers (WAIS), Z39.50, SGML, and gateways from the WWW. My work applied these technologies to geographic information discovery, such as the Australian Spatial Data Directory (ASDD).

The recent includes: Participation in open source projects such as Apache Cocoon and Apache Forrest to replace my home-grown XML processing and presentation facilities.

The current includes: Tools to assist with my stock market trading activity, e.g. Qtstalker for charting and technical analysis software, TurboTrader for real-time presentation of ASX market data, and The Australian Share Traders Co-operative formed by a group of us TurboTrader subscribers to provide a collaborative environment for funding and further development of services.

… so hopefully some interesting stories and observations to share.
