J Aaron Farr: Amazon steals the New Yorker from your Kindle!

And makes your wife cry! It happened us this morning. A little while after I turned on WiFi to download a new book, my dear Melody discovered that her unopened and partially read New Yorkers were gone. Amazon eventually deletes old issues unless you explicitly “keep” them.

I contacted Amazon. Their reply was professional, prompt, and unacceptable. They explained that this is their policy, publishers insist on it. There you have it. Amazon’s policy is to steal your old magazines unless you explicitly “keep” their hands off! “We bought it, you took it away,” Melody lamented. I am about to send a message to the New Yorker as well. If I hear back from either company, I’ll be sure to update this post.

Remember dear friends, New Yorkers, and Kindle lovers: what you buy may not be yours to keep.

UPDATE: Amazon says they will refund us for the lost issues. I’m pleased with the customer support. It is a shame that I had reason to contact them in the first place.
